It’s always an honor and a little scary to photograph a friend’s wedding. When that friend happens to be a fellow photographer, it’s even more of an honor and even more scary. Demetrius is both a friend and a photographer, but when he asked me to photograph his and Katrina’s wedding, I just couldn’t say no.
Back when I shot Katrina and Demetrius’ engagement session, it was a cold winter day in Denver. Their son, Allister, spent most of his time in the stroller. Fast forward to June and it’s a beautiful summer day and Allister is running around everywhere. Friends and family from around the world gathered to celebrate Katrina and Demetrius. Smiles seemed to be the dress code and hugs replaced handshakes. It was truly a joyful day.
Katrina and Demetrius just seem to smile all of the time. When they greet you, when they talk about each other, when they see Allister and most of all when they see each other. It’s infectious. Being around them just makes you smile. And honestly, that’s the main thing that stands out to me about their wedding… the smiles, both theirs and their guests’. Not a bad lasting impression from a wedding. I challenge you not to have a big smile on your face after looking at their photos.
