Comfortable. Custom. Tender.
Sometimes weddings can be a little stressful. I’m not talking bad traffic stressful. I’m talking driving through Kansas in a blizzard in the middle of the night stressful. Fortunately, most of my couples don’t get too stressed on their wedding days. Tom and Kelly’s wedding was the epitome of laid back. But it wasn’t just laid back. It was comfortable. Everyone was laughing and having fun. Even though it was a short day, there wasn’t a huge crunch for time. The ceremony was even quite comfortable. At one point, Kelly asked the officiant, “Do I get to kiss him now?”, which gave everyone a good laugh. This is how weddings should work. I didn’t feel like a photographer. I felt like I was part of the family.
From the centerpieces to the cake topper, the invites to the mugs, everything about this wedding was custom made. Tom and Kelly chose the props and subjects for the table centerpieces based on their favorite subjects in school. The cake topper was custom ordered from Etsy. The mugs were hand made by a local artist. Even the graphics, invites and a variety of other ephemera were custom designed by Tom and Kelly (and all of the colors matched perfectly, down to the Stuff You Need To Know sheet that they gave me!).
But mostly, this was a tender wedding. That’s the only way I can describe the way Kelly and Tom act with each other. They make each other laugh and they can both be pretty silly, but the way they talk to each other, touch each other and even glance at each other is tender. It was an absolute pleasure to work with them and photograph their wedding. Congrats Kelly and Tom!
